A wide range (0-2000mg/L)of SS contents can be measured with excellent reproducibility using the near-infrared radiation transmission method. Any of the calibration curves of MLSS, Clay (inorganic mud) and Kaolin may be used as standard substances of SS. If "MLSS" is selected for an activated sludge treatment tank, "Clay" for the precipitation treatment of construction sludge, or "Kaolin" for white mud, a concentration can be obtained closer to an analyzed value.

For mixed sources (alpha, beta, gamma) the CPM mode is recommended. This instrument also offers an accumulated total and timer function, up to 9,999,000 counts and 40 hours. A red LED blinks and a beeper chirps with each count (the chirp can be muted).
