An Instrument Shunt is a resistor connected in parallel with a measuring device to move the current range beyond a particular value for which the instrument is capable of measuring directly.

The IS 13341 : 1992 has laid down the requirements for Ageing Test, Self-Healing Test and Destruction Test on Shunt Capacitors of the self healing type for AC Power Systems. The DP differential isolation probes are an important accessory for any laboratory involved in power electronics and high voltage systems. These probes allow isolated and floating measurements with any oscilloscope or data recorder, whilst the oscilloscope can remain grounded.
