PXI Source Measure Units (SMUs) combine high-precision source and measure capability with features designed to reduce test time and increase flexibility. These features include high channel density for building parallel SMU test systems, deterministic hardware sequencing for minimizing software overhead, and high-speed update and sample rates for quickly changing setpoints and acquiring data. Additionally, the flexible sampling rate and streaming capability of PXI SMUs allows you to use the instrument as a digitizer to capture transient behavior, and the digital control loop gives you the ability to adjust the transient response of the instrument. The ability to change the transient behavior of the SMU, called SourceAdapt, reduces SMU settling time and minimizes overshoot and oscillations, even with highly capacitive loads.

These devices are able to update up to 8-CH, 12-bit analog outputs imultaneously sustaining 1 MS/s. The reference sources and output polarities are programmable individually per channel. Combine this with the multiplying PXI architecture, ADLINK PXI-2500 series PXI modules can generate complex modulated analog signals. The hardware-based arbitrary waveform generation frees CPU intervention even when all analog outputs are updating at full speed, and the lengths of waveforms are only limited by the system memory. The sensor is a mono-crystalline silicon solar cell having an area of2x2cm(4cm).The back of the solar cell is attached to the device in such a way that a good heat transfer to the device housing is guaranteed. Below the solar cell a Pt100 RTD temperature sensor is mounted to allow monitoring of device temperature. The device is not shunted allowing the whole IV-curve to be measured.
