Resistance welding uses a pair of electrodes to clamp two base metals firmly together prior to and during application of electrical current. Poorly clamped parts result in a defective joint. A correctly clamped assembly aids in reducing the resistance in the joint and allows the current flow to properly heat the base metals to weld the part.

Colors representing areas of less interest can be made transparent so that the shape of a pollution plume, for example, can be visible. CMAS probes are made from user-specified sensing materials, including carbon steels, stainless steels, and nickel-, aluminum-, and copper-based alloys. They can also be made from customer supplied materials that have the same microstructure/heat treatment as the system component materials to be monitored. The size of the sensing electrode varies from 0.1 to 3 mm (0.004" to 0.12") in diameter, depending on the application. Typical numbers of electrodes in a CMAS probe are 9, 16 or 25 for online corrosion monitoring and vary from 8 to 100 for laboratory corrosion and electrochemical studies.

The VersaSTAT 3F applies an AC voltage to the sample emerged in electrolyte. This "global" voltage generates AC current to flow at the electrode / electrolyte interface. A dual-element probe is positioned in solution close to the surface of the sample. The electrometer measures a differential voltage measure between the two measurement elements as a measure of local voltage-drop in solution. This voltage-drop exists in solution because of current flow from local reactions at the sample, the resistance of the electrolyte and the spatial separation of the dual measurement elements.

The sample holder consists of two parallel electrodes, one of which is fixed in position and the other which can be moved into contact with the sample by adjustment of a micrometer. The TAURUS PRECIOHM ET is one of the specially designed products by TAURUS to measure earth resistivity and earth resistance in a power station. These tests are performed based on 4 point (Wenner) and 3 point (fall of potential) methods respectively. All electrical equipment in the substation and power stations are electrically connected to station earth mat with earth electrodes. The earth electrode ensures that in the event over voltage on the system due to system fault or lighting discharges etc., the parts of the equipment which are normally ”dead” as far as voltages are concerned; do not attain dangerously high potentials. An earth electrode will only be effective so long it has a low resistance to the earth and can carry large currents without deteriorating. Thus the resistance of earth electrode should be low to give good protection and it must be continuously measured and monitored in all the substations and power stations.
